Summer is in full bloom, and while our program sites remain closed, The Sylvia Center is continuing to evolve our digital learning platform with more opportunities for live cook-along classes and video tutorials.
Now more than ever, we are committed to providing fun, educational opportunities to empower young people to take control of their health through food.
Beginning July 13th, we will share a dynamic weekly series of daily themed videos on our social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. In each video, our community chefs will deliver educational content for kids of all ages (pre-K+). Topics will include lessons for mastering basic culinary skills, farm-based activities, and plant-based recipe demos, always with a health and nutrition focus.
Check out our full summer video schedule below:
Our community chefs will also be hosting live cooking classes every Wednesday and Thursday that the whole family can participate in. And if you live in Columbia County or North Brooklyn, Fresh Food Kits with all of the ingredients for each class are available to you!
Interested in participating? Visit our Virtual Cooking website for more information.
We look forward to sharing recaps and photos with you in next month’s newsletter!
Together, we can empower our students and families to lead healthy, full lives.
Recipe of the Week:
Our delicious Spiced Chickpea Stew with Yogurt Flatbread is packed with protein and flavor. This recipe serves as a great family dinner, with tasks for everyone to help.
Register here to join us on July 8th for a live cook-along class!
We are just a few weeks away from this summer’s fun, informal and “socially-distanced” picnic dinner, and we can’t wait to celebrate our mission with you!
Together, we’ll enjoy a delicious picnic dinner, freshly made brick oven pizzas by guest chef Rafi Bildner, and scrumptious summer beverages.
Unable to attend?
The Sylvia Center is offering to-go dinners at Katchkie Farm, and supporters are invited to participate in our online paddle raise.
Help us raise critical funds to ensure young people in Columbia County and New York City have access to skill-building culinary and nutrition education along with fresh, healthy food.
Thank you for supporting our work!
