Community Chef Karen has always had a passion for helping others. Her first degree was pre-med, but after realizing that medicine was not her true passion, she began on the journey to study public health. There she struggled with some hardships in her family where she truly understood the value of taking care of yourself and motivating yourself to strive for your best. It was at this time that she took up an interest in cooking and eventually started her own organization called Beautifully Fed where she educates women of color on the importance of self care. Karen teaches cooking classes where she highlights that food can be tasty as well as nutritious. An important part of Karen’s work is also spreading awareness of food justice and food security.
