KAREN CHERFILS
Chef Educator
Karen Cherfils was born and raised in Bronx, NY. She received her MPH from the Dornsife School of Public Health at Drexel University and a Certificate in Culinary Nutrition from the Natural Gourmet Institute. Karen lives in Brooklyn where she trained to become a Community Chef with Just Food. She is the founder of KC Dearson Inc., a Health & Culinary Nutrition Education Consultancy Group in Brooklyn, and used to serve as the Culinary Nutrition Education Consultant for Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation (NEBHDCo) where she managed, identified work opportunities for, supported and trained a team of 25 Community Chefs, and developed culinary curricula for their Culinary and Nutrition Knowledge Sharing (CNKS) program. Karen now operates KC Dearson Inc. full-time and collaborates with many of the community chefs she used to manage at NEBHDCo through her primary program, Brooklyn Culinary Collective. As a collective, Karen and her team are committed to positively impacting the health of communities of color together.
