Farm Animals: Protein and Eggs | Natural Dyes

Gardener Nicole will show us around the chicken coop at Katchkie farm and where eggs come from. The hens at the farm lay eggs once every 24-36 hours but none of the eggs at the farm will ever become chickens. Inside the chicken coop there are little boxes where the hens can lay their eggs.

A fun activity you can experiment with your eggs is creating natural dyes to make them colorful. Young scientists will learn how to make dye from natural ingredients and learn to form hypotheses. To make the dyes we will use red cabbage, red beets, turmeric, green apple peels, yellow onion skin, and coffee grounds. Change the color of the dyes by using an acid (vinegar) or a base (baking soda!) Share with us your results!
