The Sylvia Center Chef Assistants play a crucial role in supporting Chef Instructors in delivering effective, engaging experiences for our students. They are responsible for much of the class preparation and will assist the chef in engaging and educating the students. Chef Assistants have the opportunity to inspire children to try new foods and learn new life skills, giving them encouraging feedback and gently helping those students who are struggling with new concepts or tasks.

The Sylvia Center welcomes volunteers who support our mission to participate in our programming and special events. The Sylvia Center volunteers should be hardworking individuals that enjoy eating and preparing seasonal, whole foods and has enthusiasm for supporting efforts in the community to teach children and teens about cooking and practicing healthy eating behaviors. We ask that our volunteers are able and willing to commit to the agreed upon period of time, and that they are willing to roll up their sleeves and help wash dishes, cook, prep, and partake fully in all aspects of the program.
